Default Turning - Cutting Edge - or out past that?

Turners seem to be the explorers of woodworking. Some one is
always wanting to see what's on the other side of that hill /
mountain/ continent / atmosphere/ solar system/ . . .
And some take a well beaten path - and find something interesting
that everyone else overlooked.
