Request for Assistance
Greetings, I am familiar with many of the regulars here, and have an unusual request that will only take a couple of minutes of your time. Could one of you early risers possibly check this web site, which is my Blog, for positive access? In other words, can you connect to it? http://gonelikethewind.blogspot.com/ I have no way to check it personally, other than from a suspect connection, and have no relatives which to call who could do so. Thanks, Really! Greg G. |

Thanks, Really! Greg G. It worked fine. But did you really want to know if it worked or were you directing traffic to your political website to show your personal beliefs? That site was much too well together by someone to think they the same individual couldn't find successful access. Robert |

The reason I asked is that when first began I had readers from around the world with whom I exchanged comments. Then around June they suddenly disappeared, several of their sites went down, and I haven't heard a peep since. It's like I became a leper. ;-) I suppose I'm a hack and the opinions aren't popular. Didn't look at it, as it was taking too long to load- but if you're talking about international correspondance, I've heard that there are a lot of countries that have begun censoring the internet (something on the order of 40 of them) for their citizens. Might be that some of those folks you're missing have had their access to western websites cut- I'm sure there's a list of countries are censored somewhere if you want to check. |

Think about splitting the page. I had to stop the load to get access - shows loading but no activity - but seemed to get the whole thing. I've had that happen a couple times, so it could be some issue on my end. I'm browsing with Opera 9.02. |

And yes, in case you forgot, I turn wood. ;-) No additional response is needed, and I suppose I should have prefaced the subject line with OT. I may be a bit sensitive to these things. When I read what was on your site, I guess it got my ire up as there have been so many attempts at a stealthily starting a political thread. The ALWAYS wind up with everyone at each other's throats with name calling, threats of beatings if they ever see them in person, and people that normally get along quite well ready to tear each other's lungs out. In just 2 - 3 posts on these unmoderated groups people are so far off the topic This NG has been wonderfully free of that. At the woodworking NG, take a peek at the longest threads there; it used to be how much they hated Home Depot, and whether or not Norm was a "woodworker" or a "craftsman". Now anything to do with any politics gets the most posts, and by the third or fourth post, it is ugly. So when it gets to a couple of hundred, you can guess what the tone and content of the posts will be. The whole group was so confrontational after a while that it wasn't even safe to post your opinion on your tools. Now many have quit, and won't come back. Some won't be missed; some will. And a small spark can easily start a forest fire over there. And it has been a common technique on NGs and forum across the 'net to draw attention to one's website and its content by asking innocently of someone could take a look at it and make sure a couple of the links work. This obviously wasn't your intent. I like the peace and quiet here, the focus on woodturning and related subjects, and the noticeable lack of righteous political podium banging. Good luck with your site. Robert |
