Sofa foam?
SWMBO says she's gonna buy a new sofa to replace our 2 year old on unless i
sort out the flattened cushions! so, does anyone have any experience buying new higher density foam(dunlopilo?) and stuffing it into existing covers? and where to buy some from? Ta! Steve |

Ta! Steve There are a number of online suppliers - google for upholstery foam. Also in the 'backstreet' area of most towns or on the small industrial units you should find little upholstery workshops who will sell you the bits and pieces you need. Although it is against the ethos of most who frequent this NG, myself included, these places don't tend to charge much and have a lot of specialist knowledge on getting the right grade of foam and how to make the edges look right. I've got one catalogue here in the bookcase. S M Upholstery (No smirking at the back there!!) www.smfoam.co.uk. HTH Bob |

No but I need to sort out the old cushions. and stuffing it into existing covers? and where to buy some from? Could try these (happen to be in Leeds): http://www.foamforcomfort.co.uk/ I'm sure there are others to be googled if you can't find local supplier -- Chris French, Leeds |

Dunlopillow is a latex foam from Dunlop which has cubic sections on one side, so SWIMBO couldn't turn the cusions over - this will be your fault. It smells IMO and is only available in standard sizes. What you need is HR foam which means High Resiliance. AKA Premium Foam or Reflex. It comes in grades like 22/10, 14/7 etc. First digit is the density, second the 'firmness' Go for 25 or 30 oz density, firmness up to you, but the firmer it starts, the firmer it stays. Check your existing cusions for a white 'cotton wool' like topping, which is called Dacron. Any foam converter can add this for you, and it adds to the initial softness & 'loft'. You can get this foam cut any size or shape from a block (8' x 4 ' x 10' long) Try Yellow Pages for Foam Converters. Try Yell.com for : Foam Products - Plastic HR foam also meets the fire/smoke regs. Take the old cusions with you and threaten them with cash - surprising effect on retail prices sometimes. Dave |
