Sewage overflow, suggestion please
Josie wrote:
We have second man hole over flow within three weeks this morning. I've had this house for more than three years, this is the first time we've encountered the issue. We are sharing a network with about five other houses, but not every house has a manhole in the garden. We've had suggestions on survey the pipeline therefore getting all houses share the cost of maintains. Anyway, we'd like suggestions on sewage contractor, or any other advice please. The blockage is within the "private region", so neither Anglia water or Cambridge water have no responsibility. Many thanks. ps: we've called a plumber last time, maybe we should call a sewage specialist? Suggest a cry for help in UK.d-i-y, to which I hve cross posted this... |

I've got a manhole in the front garden and the toilet decided to block while
we were having a New Years Eve party which caused a bit of grief. We happened to have a couple of diyers in the party who decided that it was a good idea to get my pressure washer out and blast away down the drain until the blockage went. It worked - drain has worked fine since but I did end up covered in all sorts of stuff while the pressure washer was going! Definitely cheaper than calling in anyone - if you have a pressure washer. If a manhole surcharges (overflows) frequently, it is usually a sign of trouble downstream - either a broken pipe or tree roots penetrating into the pipe. Solid matter gets stuck on the obstacle, and nothing can get past. You need to get everyone who is served by this private sewer to agree to share the cost of investigating and repairing it. There are lots of specialist drain companies around who will first send a remotely controlled camera down the pipe to look for breaks and roots. Depending on what they find, they may need to dig a hole to effect a repair or repair it by other means. Minor breaks can be repaired by inserting a plastic lining into a section of pipe. Remote control cutting machines can chop out tree roots. Unfortunately, all these things are fairly expensive. Have a look at your household insurance - you may find that it covers this sort of thing. -- Cheers, Set Square ______ Please reply to newsgroup. Reply address is invalid. |
