Default New Immersion cylinder - OK to leave second coil disconnected?

Today I've bought a new immersion cylinder with 2 coils.

Hope to connect it to the existing rayburn and water tank tomorrow.

The second coil is for fitting to a solar vacuum water heater in the Spring.

Can I leave it disconnected?

I believe I shouldn't light the rayburn with no water in as it would crack the tank, but this copper wouldnt get above 100 degrees C so is it OK to leave the second coil disconnected?

Well it will be in water after all, so that should even things out
temperature wise. I guess you could put some water in it but leave the ends
open assuming they are higher than the coil of course!
