I say the same about fruit, pay the pickers £275 an hour like my
solicitor why should I care, if peole can't afford the fruit then we
won't need the pickers will we.

Well this was covered on the BBC R4 Farming program first broadcast at
05:45 On Monday July ?16th. Definately a monday.

Charlotte Smith was talking to a fruit grower in PErthshire who
wanted the temporary fruit-pickers permits reinstated because they
were leaving fruit to rot because of lack of pickers.

Charlotte posed the question ' why not pay them more ?'.

Grower replied 'we tried that, but then we lost half our pickers
before the end of their agreed period, because once they had
earned enough, they just left'.

Sounds most unlikely.
Who would they pay the pickers BEFORE they pick the fruit.
I get paid at the end of the 3rd week in a month ,I get paid monthly.

Pickers dont get paid like that.

So why didn't I **** off after weeks working ? would you ?

So if you pay pickers £275 per hour you'll only see them for
a couple of hours a week, leaving most of the crop unpicked.

I would pay those thgat worked the hours specified at
the end of their working week like most employers do.

Not with pickers they dont.

Do yuo really believ Charlotte gave the pickers a weeks money after a
couoke
of hours work, suprised she as any busuness at all if sahe operates like
that.
