Default LED & Fibre Optic X-Mas deco's

She's just dug out a fibre optic santa, purchased a good few years ago
for silly money no doubt from QVC. Once again she's lost all the
transformers for everything FFS. Same every year. removes all power
supplies from all lights, decorations etc etc and mixes them all up in a
bag and loses it.

So FibreOptic Santa has a 12v 20w Halogen bulb up his arse. I was
wondering if it could be replaced with an LED bulb, whether the light
would still pass effectively down fibres and give the same effect and if
so, whether a regular wall-wart would suffice or would it need to be a
special one?

Cheers
Pete

The wall worts for those should be easy to identify as they will be AC,
rather than the far more common DC.

I'm pretty sure it's DC as there's a motor embedded in his bowels
somewhere through which the light shines to make his beard, cloak and
everything else shimmer and twinkle.

Not that any of that matters now because Mrs. stood it in the shop
window and the woman from "The Tavern" said she'll have it for the
paltry £20 is was priced up as to sit atop her bar with or without the
power supply.
More Christmas tat being moved on to a good home.

Yep, any light bulb that fits as the source will work. And, as long as the LED
is 12V the wall-wart should work exactly the same, or any other wall-wart for
that matter, which has the right plug on it. Only if you change the bulb's
voltage would you need a different wall-wart. Otherwise, I'd suggest you affix
the wall-wart's cable to the Santa, as well as the other decorations, so they
stay together and can't be confused in the future.

or do what I now do and put a sticky label on the wall-wart with it's
ownership written on it.

I have a proper database of wall warts. Much better
when you need to borrow one for something.

Loose it or condem it. Save yourself the trouble.

"Paint Pen" type markers (eBay) are even better, white for wall warts
and black for (white) plug tops. Alternatively "Tulip" fabric paint. The
latter is particularly good for providing a relatively permanent marker
on stuff which gets manhandled or lives in wet or dirty environments.

I do label everything up where possible. Even when I put the lights away
with their PSU attached she takes them all off, puts them in a box/bag
then loses the whole lot!

Ah well, at least it means less bloody lights cluttering up the place
for the next month.
