11mph Odd site speed limit ?

Current cheapest eggs I buy are a quid for a box of six. So around 20d in old money or 1'8d https://www.tesco.com/groceries/prod...x?id=252114301 Tesco value eggs are a bit cheaper at £.08 *2.4 = 19.2d each I am not sure even back in the day you could get a half dozen eggs for 11d. I found some data for 1970 where eggs were 3s 4d (40d) for a box of 6. So its entirely unclear as to wether the OP was referring to prices today in old money, in which case 11d an egg is pretty cheap and 11d a box is ridiculous, or back in the 1950s, when it is JUSAT conceiveable tahat a half dozen eggs might have been had for less than a shillling, though I doubt it even then, or they would have featured more in my childhood than they did. One obscure reference in a BBC article suggest 3d a half dozen in WWI!!! So 11d a box might havce been a reality in the 1930s or thereabouts. I sent about 3 seconds trying to think of something that would be 11d. Or 11/- would have done. And I guessed eggs. Wrongly it appears... I don't even like them. Andy |
