Default Window Furniture

I'm having some (6) sash windows fitted, and I was wondering about sash
fasteners and any other bits. I'd imagine they fit whatever's cheapest
as standard - does anyone have any recommendations/advice? I'd like
'original Victorian' look.

My choice, Brass: Brighton Catches and window lifts.

Thanks, I think I prefer those - might as well get Fulton and Bray
lockable - it'll add £40 to the cost but in the scheme of things . . .

Interesting thanks, hadn't seen those. I'll ask the joiner about them.

Our house still has the original Victorian sash windows, and quite a lot
of the original brass fittings, but some have been 'updated' over the
years. The originals are invariable covered in 100+ years of paint, so
the first task is finding the slots in the screws, then undoing them.
That done, the old paint is removed by a combination of dishwasher and
tumbler, then polished with wire wool, then brass polish.

Replacing missing furniture is pot luck. Bits quite often turn up in
junk shops, 'antique' shops, even boot fairs. Always plenty on eBay,
but usually at a price. Having said that, underneath any grotty looking
piece there is usually a good, solid brass casting just waiting to be
rejuvenated.

These people specialise in sash window fittings - haven't bought anything from them for a while but no problems with the bits to refurbish my sash windows around 10 years ago.
