Anyone know where I can get sheet metal screws like the ones here?

http://www.skyrunner.com/screwshoe.htm

I assumed screwfix would do them but alas no. B&Q, Homebase etc. round
where I live don't have anything like them.

Ouch! At 32mm long, it would be a bit on the painful side.

Tim,

A proper engineers merchants or fastner specialist should have those off
the shelf

I'll have a shufti at a "proper" hardware store and see what they have but
it could end up costing me a lot more in fuel than postage.

If the soles are thick enough, these are shorter and drill their own hole,
but you'll need to screw them a fair way in to get to the thread: Screwfix
19050.

Close, but I think their lack of threads will mean that they'll pull out too
easily.

Cheers.

panto

Oh no they don't!

/panto

Well if they do, I've yet to find them! Seriously, slotted hex head, self
tapping, threaded all the way to the tip, in 1/4" 3/8" & 1/2" lengths?

PC case screws (the coarse thread ones). I imagine most of us have a
surplus by now.

You'll need an awl (NOT a drill) to start the holes. This sort of
self-drilling screw won't self drill into a shoe sole anyway, unless
you cut the threaded part off and use it in a drill chuck. Trying to
drive a spike-ended screw in wth just a screwdriver is going to slip
and skewer yourself.
