Default Stop cocks.

Hello All

Is there anything wrong with using a gate valve (22mm, normal central
heating issue) as a stop cock on the rising main?

I hope not, because I have - seeing as all the effort I went to
yesterday sourcing fittings for "every single possible" type of 3/4"
alkathene pipe - only to find out this morning when I cut it that it
was the "other sort", and the gate valve was the only thing available
that would fit.

Seems to work alright, just wondering.
