Following the Nice attacks (hope your speech software pronounces that properly) France is back on state of emergency, so enhanced border checks so we check all the Brits to the nth degree whilst Spanish, Italian and Belgian terrorists can just walk across the border France reintroduced border controls across the country on 13th November 2015 in response to the Paris attacks, as a precaution for Euro 2016 and the Tour de France. Under the original notification, they are due to end on 26th July 2016, but that may be extended. so they are stopping people at customs posts at the border are they? They have certainly issued the necessary notice under Articles 25 and 26: http://ec.europa.eu/dgs/home-affairs...control_en.pdf including all the new built roads where there are no facilities for doing so We have no permanent facilities to carry out census stops, but that doesn't stop them putting out road signs and road cones to create one. but not on 3 lane motorways That doesn't mean it can't be done. The pictures I saw of one of the Belgium / France border checks just after the Paris attacks appeared to involve closing the motorway and diverting traffic into a service area, where the checks were being carried out. -- -- Colin Bignell |

A colleague came back from Europe at the weekend. They drove through Belgium into France to get the chunnel. He said that as they came down the motorway to the Belgium/France border, all traffic was directed off at a junction, and straight back on the other side. No checks being carried out, just a short stretch of motorway in the middle of the junction closed (for no obvious reason). No sandwiches there? Parked where the overspill of the detritus of beach rubbish collects near the cafe car park, must be the epitome of deep joy for them. |
