New cordless combi drill driver.
Looking for a new cordless combi drill driver. Probably 18V (already
have 10.8V drill driver and impact driver). I've got an old Bosch 14.4V NiMH jobbie, but the batteries are getting iffy and it's not a combi, and it is only marginally better than my 10.8v one, and I find NiMH batteries a bit of PITA nowadays after getting used to Li-Ion. So Screwfix are selling this blue Bosch for £89.99 (2x 1.5Ah batteries, which I think will do me). I've got other Bosch stuff that I've been very happy with and have always been happy with their service. http://www.screwfix.com/p/bosch-gsb1...i-ion-cordless -combi-drill/9647j Any other suggestions? I'm not convinced though that moving up to say £150 price point would be worth it for me. Thanks -- Chris French |

Thanks Here's a comparable price Makita http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Makita-18v...AOSwintXRyg B and I have seen somewhere the same thing in their bigger box with ~ 100 accessories for £145 (can't spot it for the moment). I have the same thing (but NiCad) and have found it surprisingly useful when working away from home to have the different sizes and types of drills, hole saws, nut drivers, hex and torx bits, etc. all to hand in one place. |

My opinion is that the chuck is a bit slippy and the torque is not as good as my 10 years old Sears Craftsman 18V with NiCd batteries. My Lidl replacement batteries for the Parkside NiCd have been a bit of a failure with a poor lifespan. |

I'm not convinced though that moving up to say £150 price point would be worth it for me. Thanks As luck would have it, I just bought this: http://www.screwfix.com/p/bosch-gsb1...ill-bare/6213j as part of a twin deal with its sister, the 10.8V impact driver plus 2 batteries, charger and L-BOXX case for both for about £140 on Amazon. The impact driver impressed my mate who is generally all about Makita - it seemed to have similar driving power, though slower and the battery will not run for as long, but that's kind obvious given its a 10.8V. The combi drill has only been used a bit (drilling and driving) and it is plenty powerful enough to do quite a lot of jobs before breaking out the mains drill. It claims (not tested) that it will drill 10mm in masonry and more in wood. It's actually quite a chunky little thing so I think that's possible. Batteries are now 2Ah rather than the 1.3Ah that my old Bosch screwdriver was - the old charger still charges the new batteries and the batteries are all fully interchangeable (so I now have spare batteries for when I need a really small powered screw driver). So +lots from me. |

So +lots from me. Thanks Tim, I do have the matching drill/driver and impact driver to that one, and they are indeed great bits of kit, I use them all the time. I love how small and light they are, and they seem to pack plenty of punch. I did consider just getting the combi, but the drill has it's limits, Since I was looking to replace my larger (but really only slightly better) old, larger drill driver, it seemed a good idea to get a larger combi. Anyway, can now ponder it for a bit more now :-) -- -- Chris French |
