Default Best cordless drill driver?

Having just stripped the gears on my 18 month old Makita 14.4v cordless drill
driver I'm looking for opinions as to which would be the best replacement.
I'm looking for a minimum of 14.4v, preferably NiMh over NiCad, two speed
gearbox, screwdriving clutch, hammer not important. The main thing is
reliability - i have always been an advocate of "buy the best and cry only
once"

Any opinions and experiences welcome. TIA
