I'm not saying the EU is perfect and couldn't be improved. But even if
we do leave, it will still have a very big influence on us. As

with their regs.

But they already have to comply. Of course you could ask comply in what
way and for what reason.

Do you really need examples of what big business will do in the interests
of making money? Like the banking crash we're still paying for?

Of course it's difficult to keep on top of them - like with the VW
emissions standards - but left unfettered we'd be in an even bigger mess.

The point is that exporters to the EU already have to comply with their
regs and so it would be no different for them after Britain leaves the EU.

And no one is suggesting Britain shouldn’t have any regs
that have to be complied with after it leaves the EU.

But it does make sense with stuff like cars and appliances
that Britain continues to have the same regs so that what
is required is the same as what the EU requires, so that
British car manufacturers only have to comply with one
set of regs even after Britain has left the EU.

But after Britain has left the EU it can do what it likes about
all the other stuff like state subsidys for infrastructure when
that makes sense, working hours rules that make sense for
Britain, what makes sense with what EUians will be allowed
to move to Britain if they decide they want to do that etc.
