I've just put a crude filter into my news reader to drop the posts from
H0H.

All I am seeing now is people feeding the Troll.

Perhaps if we dropped all posts instead of responding then the level of
background noise might reduce?

I fully endorse John's post, but perhaps this could be posted each week to
keep it visible instead of on every post?

Cheers

As I said in an earlier thread on this topic, since putting
FlashNewsgroups.com as author into the kill-file slot of Agent I've
not seen any original posts from HomeownersHub, only from people here
responding to them. Grrrr!

Well it's beginning to look like the site is so useless that it would be a
genuine kindness to *never* respond to messages from there and hope that
new users go elsewhere. I'm really not sure that responses to H0H queries
that pop up on Usenet ever propagate back to H0H. I've seen many new
threads started on Usenet appearing on the hub but not replies to messages
that have been posted by Hub users.

I used the site yesterday evening to post a follow up to one of my
own recent posts just as a test to get an idea of how long it
took to reach E-S. So far it hasn't appeared. I don't even think
it's appeared in H0H yet.
I can't imagine that was due to human moderation, perhaps my test
post didn't reach a required word-count.

Incidentally, does anyone remember the guy who came on here about
ten years ago canvassing our opinion on his plan to leech our
content for a commercial Web forum, and the short shrift we gave
him?

He just didn't "get" why a tradesman would want to help a DIYer
out of altruism.

Does your newsreader not permit you to drop the follow-ups as well?

AFAICT Agent only allows kill-filing by author or title. Filtering by
author (which seems to work using FlashNewsgroups.com as author)
doesn't exclude follow-ups. Filtering by subject requires that you
know the subject in advance, which in most cases you don't, and can
only be set up once the subject is revealed. That only happens when
people reply to posts from H0H, so has to be done for each subject,
which is a PITA.

If you know how to set up Agent kill-filing differently, do tell.

Set it to Ignore Thread?

Doh! Just realised that all threads are listed on the site by first message
date, not by most recent reply date. Consequently, anyone looking for a
reply to an ancient message is gonna have to scroll back a very long way!
As I said, a useless site.

I wonder what the incentive is for those that set it up?
It's not exactly teaming with adverts.

Enough to cover its costs and then some I suppose. It's certainly not meant
to actually be useful.

Just slightly puzzled - Pan shows the author as a long numerical string
ending with ".

Also, unfortunately, the standard actions include ignoring the post and
the author, but not the thread.

Cheers

I'm not familiar with Pan, but I had to type it in by hand in Agent.
How you ignore the thread in Pan, I don't know. I'm trying Dixon's
suggestion for Agent which might work; I'll have to see.

I'm using Pan 0.139, and it has an 'Ignore thread' option.

I can manually ignore a thread - I was trying to do it in a "scoring rule"
so that when an individual post arrived the whole thread could be ignored.
