The alternative being the likes of G W Bush, Saddam Hussien or Tony Bliar.

Bull****. The alternative is someone like Mary Robinson in Ireland who
has no power at all. Or nothing to replace that fat little german woman.

Just why do the BBC go in for these live outside broadcasts, especially from

Do staff use it as a way to get some more remuneration such as travel
allowance, grub paid for? If so I could see that it might be
opportunity taken whenever possible.
But it does seem a waste of time on many occasions. On the South Coast
we had the Hoegh Osaka vehicle carrier ship incident back in
January, cue Sally Taylor to leave the studio and stand on a windswept
waterside pointing into background so dark that it was impossible to
tell if was Southampton Water or the Yorkshire Moors and basically
tell the viewer that "the ship is listing out there ". She could have
done that from the studio . Surely someone had the nouse to realise
that it is dark outside at 18.30 in January and utterly pointless to
aim the camera at a few lights a mile or two distant in the murk.

Also regional weather presenters doing the report from some location
such as a seaside , private garden, music festival ,sports event etc.
No value can be added to the forecast, it isn't going to stop raining
because the presenter wants to spend a nice evening out.
Presumably there is an extra cost to this, mileage allowance to be
paid for the presenter and an assistant to hold the camera, would they
get a meal allowance?

Well, I would not go that far. It is just another one of those factoids

Oh, it's all been quite amusing to watch, including the Torygraph of all
papers coming out as pro-Corbyn, only because they wanted Tories to sign
up as Labour party members so they could vote Corbyn in because he's
bound to be a disaster.

Yes, that is entirely possible. Scary, but possible. Not a chap ever
likely to get my vote but, like Tony Benn, I cannot help but admire him
in the way that I admired Maggie. People who have their views and stick
to them whatever, unlike, say Blair, who changed his (public) views to
suit public opinion.

Better her than President Blair (you *know* he would)

Why assume that the highly-desirable abolishment of monarchy will
result in a president?

Because it usually does?

Usually is completely irrelevant to what can happen.

I guess the Head of State *could* be a duck.

Your point being?

That there doesn€št have to be a president.

So who is Head of State, then?

Dont need one.

Who then is, in theory, our ultimate protection against a dictatorial
government?

The legal system.

Remember, the armed forces serve thee Crown, not the Govt.

Makes a lot more sense for the govt of the
day to decide what the armed forces do.

When Maggie sent Our Boys south, she needed (IIRC) Orders in Council (i.e.
permission) from Brenda before proceeding.

Completely stupid system to have some inbred unelected
fool have any say at all on something like that.

And the reality is that Liz has no say at all on that.

It isn't about odds. Britain is one of the last in Europe

You just don't like having her face on your coins you okker.

I couldn’t care less. I hardly ever use the coins and she isn't on
the notes.
