I didn't think that it was possible to make CFLs look worse or less stylish
than they already are. And then a link to the "Plumen" range at
lightbulbs-direct.com dropped into my in box ...

I would have thought the days of CFLs were numbered now that cheap LEDs are
starting to appear anyway.

These philips LEDs with interchangeable concave/vex covers are fairly ugly

I think they're rather nice. Clearly not everyone shares the same tastes.

Ornate?
I seem to recall some of the first ones of these were bloomin heavy as well
as they did not have electronic ballasts, just a huge lump of iron ie a
choke.
I had a bayonet holder give way under the strain once, and it could have
knocked somebody out had they been standing underneath.

Not exactly cheap are they? I see from that website that they should not
be used with "motion censors". Indeed! Why shouldn't they be allowed to
move around?

Also available at John Lewis where I actually saw them. And thought,
without looking first at the price, "They are expensive". They are!

The name is pretty bloomin' awful as well.

Sylvania are pants. Megaman is better. and Philips LEDs are very good

Working well for me. I hadn't realised how dim the CFL it
replaced had become.

Quite. But they are ideal for those who empty out their purse on the table
each night and count the pennies. But only in the summer when there is
enough daylight.

So glad that there is someone else out there who, like me, can't see
properly under the poxy things ... I managed to get some R50s with proper
frosted fronts the other day. How lovely to have the computer room / office
flooded with nice even light again, and not to have wobbly images of the
filaments projected on the walls. A few weeks ago, I managed to get some
fully frosted ES golf balls for my wall light sconces. I now have a nice
smooth 'fan' of light up the wall to the ceiling again, instead of some
uneven streaks, caused by the filaments being distorted and projected by the
crappy quality clear glass of the eco-bollox ones that I have been forced
too have in there for the last couple of years ...

I saw some horrible prog on one of the cable channels the other night, which
dealt with really nasty injuries that people turn up to A&E with. One of the
segments of the programme, had A&E doctors talking about some of the
funniest nasties that they had been presented with. One such was the person
that had turned up with a pint glass rammed up their arse. I was almost
doubting this, until they showed the x-ray that was taken at the time ...
Unbelievable, but there it clearly was. Ouch ! comes to mind ... :-)

Incidentally have you noticed that on the whole Sainsburys have been

If you mean they've been _adding_ a penny to all those 9.99 price
tickets, then about bloody time! Good for them. I don't begrudge them
their slightly increased profit margin to eliminate the intelligence
insulting pricing policy that's been, all too ****ing sadly, common
practice in the retail trade thes past 4 or 5 decades.

Tesco for ages have been using an 'exact' amount for things like
pre-packed fruit. Usually 2 quid. Given how much the price of fresh
produce varies, it's not surprising their sales are down. Be fine if the
pack varied in size as wholesale prices changed if they must keep a simple
price - but it doesn't.

I hearc about the one where a man decided to insert a glass cocktail stirrer in his urethra and then the stirrer snapped off.

When you hear of these sort of things there's always a women close by that asks why do men do duch stupid things with their penis ?.

and they expect an answer.

the last time it happened thre was a news refort of a man castrating himself by 'accident' with a lawn mower .
