While shutting the garage door (Hormann up and over type ) tonight it
whacked the wheelie bin and came to a juddering halt.

It would /nearly/ close but a few inches from the bottom some sort of
"safety pawl" sticks out and deliberately engages with one of the
regular slots in the guide roller, jamming it.

with a bit of coaxing, while holding the pawl back, I got it down and
locked, so no immediate problem.

As well as the main roller and big spring at the top, there's a small
"winding drum" on each side, with a steel rope running over it, and I
think this somehow tensions the pawl to stop it engaging with the slots.

Apart from needing straw-thin wrists to get anywhere near this, whether
the door is open or closed, anyone got any hints for where this steel
rope, with a brass ferrule needs to attach to?

Seems that Hormann call the pawl their anti-fall safeguard, and I
suppose it did its job.

is what I think needs to be tensioned by the cable that's "jumped off"
the drum ...

Well, finally got round to looking at the door again!

Turns out the winding drums are secured to the same shaft the main spring is on by couple of grub screws which were out of sight round the back while the door was fully closed, allowing it to partly open they rotated into view, of of the drums had obviously slipped round by about a quarter turn when I clumsily bashed it.

Knowing that, all it took was a stool to stand on, a big wrench to put some tension into the cable holding the pawl away from the safety stops, and an alan key to tighten the drum back up!
