When my sons finally killed the Fiat Punto (hooray! so pleased to be shot of the turd!) I syphoned the petrol out and into the Volvo. That involved multiple trips with the two petrol cans I own, as the Fiat had just been topped up when it was killed. BTW, the best way to do that is to cut the fuel line and use the petrol pump (conveniently hidden under the back seat) to pump the petrol into the cans. Except that then the petrol vapour, instead of bing in a closed environment, is then in the same environment as electric sparks. I agree. I did wonder whether I was going to blow the damn car up. I powered the pump from a battery charger that I switched on/off at a distance. I'd have preferred to siphon the petrol out, but the tank has an anti-siphon device built-in. It is not quite as bad as it sounds, because the petrol pump is inside the car under the backseat, as I said, whilst I cut the fuel line under the bonnet. The switching on and off of the battery charger was done in the garage, some 30 feet away, using extension lead. Even so, it was a fair amount of risk for £50 worth petrol. |
