The reason storm is a BBC state secret, you have to hear about Mandela.

Yet a little bit of wind the other week, near London, was headlines
for days. Hum...

About more than half a dozen trees uprooted, split or large branches
off on the 30 odd miles between here an Carlisle. One wood have been

Lots of trees down in London too in that storm a few weeks ago.

It is. Judging by the many obituaries on the meja I was expecting news of
him having risen again any time soon.

I often thought buying a flood prone building cheaply and "floodising" it
would be a good option for a DIY project.

Just rebuild it on a floating raft, but make sure it is well anchored
against floating away.

If a house is permanently floating in its own trough of water, that would save it from earthquakes too. And termites, and slow the rats and mice down. If it was a big enough trough it would act as a moat and stop burglars!

Ahbut, if it did that, it would be called a boat....

Install an engine and the other bits you need or some sticks and cloth
bits, and you can even get it back to the land after it's been swept out
to sea.

At least one Ministry of Defence building is almost entirely surrounded
by what they call an ornamental lake, but which functions a lot like a moat.

No flood damage but there was wind damage. I leave the computer window
locked into a position where it is slightly open (my ailing cat likes to
sleep on that windowsill and watch the world go by). The wind ripped the
window handles off and blew the window wide open. I was quite surprised to
find the window closed with a piece of rope attatched to the computer table
when I got home from work -one of my neighbours who has a key let himself in
"fixed" it for me.

No, I live by the sea. So I won't ever be flooded out, unless the sea rises a lot, which it won't.

You ARE in cloud cuckoo land.
That is exactly what happened.

The British Isles with a large continental shelf is ideal especially on the
North Sea coast which has the perfect shape for it.

You can get a storm surge on any of our coasts.
The North Sea is particularly prone to it as it's configuration is ideal.
All you need is the right weather and tides coinciding.

But there are lots of obstacles in the way of any possible waves:
http://i39.tinypic.com/2nhfel3.jpg
There are lots of big islands including extinct volcanoes and peninsulas, and a railway line and major roads across the water. A tsunami wave would be one inch high when it hits the shore in front of my house.
P.S do you like my view?
