Default JHC ! Humid, or wot !!?

Just drove to Tesco. About 10 mins, airco on all the way. Stepped out of the
car when I got there, and my glasses misted up totally, inside and out, in
about 5 seconds flat !

On the way back, the air in the valley was so wet that there was a sort of
'mist' hanging over the road. Glasses did the same thing when I got home and
climbed out of the car again. I've been in Florida in the height of the
summer when it gets really humid every afternoon, but I don't remember ever
having my glasses mist up like that after a short drive ...

Time was when I could mist up my glasses whist parked in a layby.

I was with a friend today parked up in his car with the air-con on, we
weren't parked up very long but a huge puddle formed very quickly under
the car. I have an air conditioner in my room and even though it's set
to 25ºc, my room is quite comfortable due to the reduced humidity.

In Bahrain it was so hot and humid that I needed to keep the wipers
going just to clear the condensation from the windscreen, so that I
could see where I was going. My shirt would get wet in the short dash
from car to building.

It's surprising that Bahrain is so humid. I always think of that part of the
world as being arid and desert-y

I could do with some aircon in the bedroom. It's a killer in there at the
moment. We have a ceiling fan, and that at least stirs it around a bit, but
as you say, it is so much more comfortable in an airco'd room like you get
in Florida and Vegas ... :-)

Yes, it is desert, and it might be arid at times, but when I was there,
it was very humid indeed, particularly at night. No doubt a
climatologist could explain it all, but my simple-minded explanation is
that it's a small island surrounded by very warm shallow water.

Maybe he was thinking about steamy goings on at the time. Seriously though
if the glasses are glass lenses, then this can happen very fast, plastic
lenses do not seem to have the issue so much.

Back in the 70s I can recall an engineer from Balfour Beatty telling me
that they were building experimental dew farms in Bahrain to harvest the
humid air for irrigation. The used webs of thread to encourage condensation
of drops that ran down the thread to be collected.

I never heard anymore about it, but it sounded feasible.

Thanks, that's interesting and impressive. My rainwater harvesting system
is getting 5000 litres per quarter - so 15,000 litres from fog is good
going.

Brought on, no doubt, by all those glass panels on peoples roofs, reflecting
the heat back up into the sky ... :-)

Plastic lenses, Brian. I had the aircon running up fairly high, and directed
up towards my face, so I suppose that my glasses probably got pretty cold. I
was just amazed at how quickly the lenses fogged up as I stepped out of the
car. Probably no more than three seconds ...
