Deserts are greening as a consequence of increased atmospheric CO2,
climate is getting back to being what we used to experience during the
climactic optimum and presumably people displaced by desertification of
Africa can re-occupy their homelands. Does news get better than this?

The reason for a lot of desert in Africa is over grazing by goats
etc./overpopulation/ ground water depletion.
When the goat die of starvation vegetation slowly returns.

There is water, but underground in many places. some clever clogs
noticed that bushes grow, even in extreme dry conditions. On examination
these were found not to be bushes but the crowns of trees. He made
grazing forbidden in one area, pruned the "bushes to one stalk. Lo and
behold he ended up with a wood, which has allowed crops to be planted in
the previous barren areas. It seems the trees had been covered with sand
over time but their roots went down to water, so they kept growing.

If they leave their goats behind, the extra rain in the desert areas
will support crops that they can eat. If they insist on taking their
goats with them, the green stuff will all get eaten and the goats will
get a bit fatter.

The sahel is not totally arid.
