More Good News!

Deserts are greening as a consequence of increased atmospheric CO2,
climate is getting back to being what we used to experience during the
climactic optimum and presumably people displaced by desertification of
Africa can re-occupy their homelands. Does news get better than this?

"The Register?"...............Right?

About on a par with the DM.

And Australian goverment scientists.
The world's biggest coal exporter.
Could be a link there.

There's a more sensible discussion on the topic here.

The reason most of the desert is unpopulated is because there isn't any
water there

The reason for a lot of desert in Africa is over grazing by goats
etc./overpopulation/ ground water depletion.
When the goat die of starvation vegetation slowly returns.

There is water, but underground in many places. some clever clogs
noticed that bushes grow, even in extreme dry conditions. On examination
these were found not to be bushes but the crowns of trees. He made
grazing forbidden in one area, pruned the "bushes to one stalk. Lo and
behold he ended up with a wood, which has allowed crops to be planted in
the previous barren areas. It seems the trees had been covered with sand
over time but their roots went down to water, so they kept growing.

it allows the plants to make better use of what water there actually is.

say less 'pure desert' than 'very arid savannah type semi-desert'.

If they leave their goats behind, the extra rain in the desert areas
will support crops that they can eat. If they insist on taking their
goats with them, the green stuff will all get eaten and the goats will
get a bit fatter.

I wasn't asking how do these plant find water (as they obviously do)

I'm asking how do the thousands of people who you move to this area (because
there is now food to feed them) find water to drink?

Same way they did before they moved out. They dig a well.

generally wells.

There are aquifers well(sic!) below ground level.

The sahel is not totally arid.

This is in a good month in a good year

Link?
Of another one you made up.

People move to/remain in very poor areas due to overpopulation.
They live off international handouts primarily.

Have you forgotten our cold spring already,,,

It was mentioned in a select committe enquiry,,

NHS is struggling under the increased burden of
so-called weather related illness...

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/arti...orrendous.html

24 March 2013
UK's coldest spring since 1963 claims 5,000 lives:
Pensioners worst affected - and experts say final toll
could be 'horrendous'

2,000 extra deaths registered in just the first two weeks of March
And for February, 3,057 extra deaths registered in England and Wales
Campaigners warn weather could prove deadly for thousands more

Freezing Britain's unusually harsh winter could have cost thousands
of pensioners their lives.

This month is on track to be the coldest March for 50 years –
and as the bitter Arctic conditions caused blackouts and traffic chaos yesterday, experts warned of an 'horrendous' death toll among the elderly.

About 2,000 extra deaths were registered in just the first two weeks
of March compared with the average for the same period over the past
five years.....

..........

http://www.ons.gov.uk/ons/rel/subnat...b-Key-findings

There were an estimated 25,700 excess winter deaths in England and
Wales in 2010/11, virtually unchanged from the previous winter...

.........

China might have been playing with the weather,,
but the answers,, oops sorry,, cause,,,

are closer to home...
