Default BRK 670MBX smoke alarms

I have two 670mbx smoke alarms interlinked. I have just returned to the property and noticed one had been removed. After checking the expiry dates I decided to purchase two new units.
Both units work on battery but when I put the mains supply on they both go into alarm. If I remove either one then the alarm stops.
Can anyone give some help with this?

Follow up: sorry should have said interconnected and not interlinked.

Incorrect interlinking?
