should not leave your laptop on charge for extended periods as that will
reduce the life of the battery.
But according to results from Google, this "common knowledge" is
out-of-date or just plain wrong.

When laptop batteries were of the nickel-cadmium variety then continual
charging was detrimental. The more modern lithium ion batteries are much
more tolerant of being continually charged. The bottom line is follow the
manufacturer's guidance.
