Have you noticed the number of metal road / railway bridges that badly need
painting. I seem to recall in my childhood that they were done often. Now
they just seem to be rusting. Perhaps there is a view that they have passed
their expected life - but a lot really look in bad condition.
I think it is a trend to omit maintenance of most things nowadays. I hate to
think what the newer steel buildings will look like in a few years when the
paint starts to flake.
