Default briggs and stratton

i have a briggs and stratton 16hp vee twin vanguard engine and at the
bottom of the carb is a fuel solenoid which is disconnected with the
wire just hanging,any ideas where it should connect to ,can i just
connect it to earth?all your help is much appreciated,many thanks

If it's like the fuel cutoff solenoids I've seen (on modern-ish VW's),
+12V will cause it to open.

Test it. You should be able to hear it click open and closed, or take
it out if you want to see the plunger move.

It may have been bypassed; if so does it need to be reconnected? Or is
machine OK without it?

A soenoid on the carb is usually a fuel cut off device.
