I want to put a glass room divider between our kitchen and
conservatory. We want to be able to close it also to get in and out. The reason? To save heating. In the winter the conservatory gets cold, also cooking vapour creates condensation (tho the open plan is great in the Summer). We want to be able to still see the garden so we really want glass. The solutution needs to fit within an opening 1530mm by 2160 so it looks like we need something cut to size. Sliding doors or a normal glass door in glass suround, either would work. We found glass sliding dividers on web (2 door double track) but seems helluva price at £576.00 for DIY fitting. You have to buy glass for front & back - so 4 in total. Here it is:- http://www.spaceslide.co.uk/room-divider/info/6/ Surely this can be done cheaper - or am I being unrealistic about price?? We looked for wardrobe doors but found no clear glass so far. Wickes have sliding doors to fit under height but too wide by 30cm or so. Could we cut their sliders down to size??? I wonder if we should buy sliding door gears and get 10mm (say) glass cut. Does anyone have any experience of this?? We're not completely hopeless but not not hugely skilled either. Your ideas, opinions & experiences would be much appreciated. Linda |

Wickes sliding wardrobe doors will fit pretty much any width, the track is cut to suit & the doors simply overlap by an amount. They have a pretty good brochure in store which explains it all. Not sure they would save much heat though. -- Dave - The Medway Handyman www.medwayhandyman.co.uk |

Just to clarify, are you saying that at present there is no door, or that it is opaque? Chris -- Chris J Dixon Nottingham UK Have dancing shoes, will ceilidh. |

Thanks. They look tall tho. I'll check brochure if height can be cut
down too. Still hoping for glass tho.. Wickes sliding wardrobe doors will fit pretty much any width, the track is cut to suit & the doors simply overlap by an amount. To make a big difference to the comfort you'd need something well sealed - so how about patio doors? Screwfix do one about the right size. http://www.screwfix.com/cats/101920/...Cu-Patio-Doors If you wanted something which gives you the full opening when needed I'd guess it would have to be specially made and pretty expensive. -- *If you can read this, thank a teecher Dave Plowman London SW To e-mail, change noise into sound. |
