Default intumescent seals and painting

Can anyone tell me if it is neccasary to get no paint on intumescent
seals in a door frame when decorating ? As the seal rebate is only
10mm from the doorstop strip it makes it awkward to get no paint on
the seal , or perhaps it is ok to paint over them ?
Thanks in advance for any replies
