Why pay a fortune when the Finest Quality Extra Virgin Oil from Italy
can be purchased for £5/litre. (or less by the pallet load). Or is this
yet another company selling crap at below the cost of production?

And who says it is "the Finest Quality"?

Oh, it's the firm selling it. Must be true, then.

No mention of acidity.

The point is that it is being sold at £5/litre and as Extra Virgin Olive
Oil. If Steve uses the same arguments as he applies to his anti
Aldi/Lidl campaign this company must also be misleading the public as it
is being sold at less than the cost of production.

On the other hand, maybe the cost of production for someone who is not a
peasant farmer is somewhat lower and that allows oil to be sold well
below £20/litre (or even at the prices Aldi/Lidl are charging).

(or less by the pallet load).

Figures. ;-)

I did find figures for Australian Extra Virgin at 80p/litre by the
pallet load (price for delivery in the UK).

Whether their oil is "the finest" or not I can't say because I've never
tasted their product. I know of the company, but I've not met them at
any trade show or indeed seen their product in any restaurant. Nor has
any of our customers produced a bottle of their oil and demanded to know
why ours is more expensive.

FWIW, it's not a huge discount, they sell nine litres for the same price
that we sell seven litres. And their oil is not a DOP product.

If you can afford to buy a pallet load and can consume it all before it
goes off, go for it. If you want to buy a pallet load from us, I'd
probably manage to meet their price.

If OTOH you just want to buy one half-litre bottle then you can expect
to pay "quite a bit" more.

You do understand the difference between buying wholesale and retail,
don't you?

That's a lie. There's nothing "amateur" about my farm. Perhaps the
Medway Pratt could enlighten the rest of us by explaining the number of
occasions on which he has visited out farm or our shop?

and is clearly so inefficient he can't compete
with market prices.

Another lie, since we sell our product at market prices. Again perhaps
the Medway Prat can list the number of occasions on which he has
purchased our product and given an example of his expertise in the olive
oil market?

While he's at it, perhaps the Medway Prat can explain how a chain fag
smoker who has kileld off his tastebuds and who is in denial about the
adverse effects on health of smoking can actually taste the difference
between olive oile direct from the farm and that blended by a suppliers
using pomace oil, heat treated sub-standard oil and even de-odorised
hazelnut oil?

Perhaps the same prat can enlighten us all with his knowledge of fraud
and corruptiong amon the biggest olive oil suppliers?

Because you're pathetic. Every time you try to claim the moral high
ground you sink deeper and deeper into the mire. Poor you.

It cannot be easy selling your overpriced "extra virgin" olive oil
into a competitive market, with your lack of communication skills
getting in the way.

It's not abusive to point out that someone who tells a lie is a liar.
You stated clearly "You can have the last word." I took you at your
word, and you turn out to be a liar.

We were somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the
drugs began to take hold. I remember "Bob Mannix"
saying something like:

Terms like "rancid", "off-notes" and "winey" indicate that the oil has
started to break down, either as a consequence of poor storage or simply
of age. Those tastes should not be present, indeed cannot be present, in
an EVOO which has been produced in clean conditions and stored
appropriately for no more than 12 months before sale. Their existence
makes it clear that either the oil on sale is itself old, or has been
diluted with old oil. The lack of complex flavours makes it clear that
the oil is *not* EVOO or has so little EVOO in it that the flavour has
been diluted out.

You rabbit on about EVOO when there is no argument on that issue - I said in
a previous post they were selling Extra Virgin Olive Oil that was not and
that this was illegal. I'm not going to agree more just because you add
tasting notes!

Woo... is it Groundhog Day again?

We were somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the
drugs began to take hold. I remember "Dave Plowman (News)"
saying something like:

Lidl also sold sets of HSS twist drills - 0.5 - 10mm in 0.5 steps - in a
steel case for quite a bit less than Screwfix, and I can't fault the
quality.

I'm beginning to like Lidl so much I'm going to Argos to get a silver
choker...

At last Aldi have sorted out their peculiar access problem from my end -
something in the mix kept throwing up 'Not Supported Method' and I
haven't been Aldied for at least a year.
Today, out of curiosity, I went and had a look at www.aldi.de and was
surprised to find the range of stuff they offer on their home turf.
Lidl, of course, aren't being left behind www.lidl.de In both cases
check out the online stuff.
Of course, it's a fairly normal mix of stuff for any large supermarket
chain in the UK, but I'm so used to seeing them as stripped-down, no
frills, etc. Of course, perhaps they might be adulterating the online
foto service with cheap fixer.
