Default Replacing failed DG sealed units

The front windows on my son's house (in the Barnsley/Sheffield area)
comprise a number of approx 7" sq sealed units in wooden frames. One
of these units has failed and is misted up and he wants to replace it.

Does anyone know a supplier of replacement sealed units in this area?

The existing sealed units appear to be held in place with wooden
beading on the exterior face and some unkown (at this point) sealant.
Any tips on how to go about removing and replacing the sealed unit?
What sealant to use, perimeter gap/spacers, etc?

TIA

petek,

a quick google of - Glaziers, Barnsley - gave 15 hits. Might be worth a
try.

Sorry I can't be more specific, but that is not my local area.

Any glass supplier will order them.

They'll also supply the correct 'putty'.

Doing just that job myself for the first time.

Beading out first. I used a pry bar with a nail remover to wedge the
beads off.

To get the units out I found that a large knife with a retractable blade
was best. It needs to be the sort with 'snap'off' sections because it is
thin and flexible. Cut around the inside with the blade bent slightly
and pressed against the glass. You will feel when you've cut deeply
enough because you can feel the wood. Then from the outside, cut in
around the edges of the unit, again until you feel the wood. Make sure
you not left any bits uncut. Then gently press the unit out. To clean up
the rebate I used the slanted end of the same knife blade as a scraper.

There have been threads about how to refit into the silicone. One hint
was to paint the rebate before refitting. I will be doing that.

Good luck and let us know how you get on.
