....in this country.

Just had the bay roof refelted and hes' cocked it up with patchwork pieces
but more serious is,he's created a hollow near the front end of the bay roof
which will in turn hold about 3.5 pints of water.
Just have to wait now till it ****es down to see what it turns out like?

What the bleedin individual trades need is a fining of £1000 if they get
more than 3 complaints from a governing body over all trades.

How has he done that ? The roof underneath must be faulty surely ?
You should have DIY'd it !

By the looks of it he's left some cement underneath? ie its not totally flat
as the cement rises as it goes further back towards the brickwork,so
therefore if there's no ceent near the front end this will create a ridge or
as it is now a hollow.
This bay roof has been done a few times over the years and the previous
buggers have built it and up with a layers of cement.

George,

Then surely it is time to consider having a proper job done and the bay
re-roofed and re-felted.

There should be a timber tilting fillet fixed between the deck and roof and
under the felt to avoid cracking when the said felt is turned up under the
presumably lead flashing - and not an ever increasing cement fillet.

You can only "repair" this sort of job a limited number of times before even
the repairs become problematical - as what seems to happening here and the
poor old roofer is getting the blame.

Another correction today - damn!

That should be between DECK and WALL - apologies for that.

I would have done but this was done by the council as part of an urban
regenration to those who required to have it done ie FREE.
But it seems alls they're giving is bloody shoddy workanship and fu**ing
heartache to the residents of the properties they are allocating the work
to.

So are you saying the poor old roofer has to patch it up with various pieces
and not one piece?
I've only just had it done 2.5 weeks ago and I caused a stink with the firm
hence it being done again now.
Slightly better but looks like some things have fell on deaf ears as the
whole reason for the complaint was of the nature it being patched and
affixed to the damn window sill so they can skimp on flashing.

At least you got work done, many years ago when we lived in a council
property we used to get letters asking if we were satisfied with the
work that had been carried out. Apparently we'd had double glazing, a
new kitchen and a new combi boiler installed (probably a fiddle by the
workers!) in the space of a couple of months but all this work had been
miraculously completed by workmen who didn't actually enter the property
and left everything looking exactly as it did before they fitted the new
stuff.

That's a bit of a broad catch-all statement. I have lived here all of my
life, and I am highly professional at what I do, and also extremely skilled
at it ...

But I know what you mean ! d;~}

Why not? If that is how the repair can only be carried out then that's how
it will be done - especially if the shapes to be cut in the felt are
'complicated' - remember, I have not seen the job, so I am working off
limited information.

Do you have a photo that can be uploaded to www.tinypic.com and the link to
it posted here?

I've only just had it done 2.5 weeks ago and I caused a stink with
the firm hence it being done again now.

Felt roof epairs can be problematical and not pretty looking, but perfectly
serviceable - even with 'standing' water on it - and you may be asking the
roofing firm to carry out an impossible task in trying to make the repair
'look pretty'.

Slightly better but looks like some things have fell on deaf ears as
the whole reason for the complaint was of the nature it being patched
and affixed to the damn window sill so they can skimp on flashing.

The felt is 'normally' turned up under a lead flashing that in the case of a
roof repair is left in place and the lead dressed down over the felt. Why
was it necessary to fix the flashing to the window cill?

George, I'm not being deliberately pedantic, but in my opinion, if the
leaking felt is more than five years old, it is very often more economical
and aesthetic to get it replaced rather than repaired - especially if it is
a small area such as a bay roof.

Is this not an option to be considered in this case, and negotiating a price
reduction with the roofing firm in view of the recent problems?

Hah! a bloke with a chip on his shoulder were bad workmen are
concerned...you one of these unskilled workers?

The work carried out was soul destroying ie damage to the property, are you
saying I shouldn't grumble when they send the painters in to paint the front
of the house and then send the DG fitters in and the roofers later.
ff's the paint work is now destroyed after the forementioned two trades have
done their crap jobs.
What builder in their right mind would send in the painters first kowingly
there's going to be construction work carried out soon after?

Nope, the council drafted in an agency, the agency drafted in a builder, the
builder drafted in the painters,DG company, roofers ie the builder was
resposible for allocating the work out.

you would have had any argument!
