Default cello bow repair

A slightly unusual DIY request! My son has managed to break his cello bow
(sword fighting, I think!). All the hairs have been pulled out from one end
but the wood is intact. Can anyone direct me to a site where I might get
some advice about repairing it myself? Thanks.

Both ends have a different clamping mechanism to clamp the hairs
in (although if it's a plastic bow, I don't know how those work).
I think you'll find it difficult to repair yourself -- you need
to get all the hairs the same tension. I would suggest finding a
local string instrument repairer.

If you're in the Beds/Herts/Bucks area, there are (were) cello and
double bass shops/repairers in (Old) Welwyn and in Oxhey (Watford)
respectively (although either will deal with a cello bow I expect).
The Oxhey one did a repair on my double bass bow about 10 years ago
(thread stripped from tensioning screw).

Whereabouts in the country are you? I may be able to suggest a Luthier...

Or if you are after a specialist, perhaps an archetier? (http://
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Luthier)

Thanks for enlightening me to a new couple of words!

Yes, here. Don't even try DIY. Go to a professional. If you are
within casting distance of West London:

Ealing Strings (Ealing Common)
Guiviers (Close to Oxford Circus)
Rosehill Instruments (Beaconsfield)
The String Zone (Egham)

Make your son explain to the Luthier how it happened and make him pay
for the repair.

Regards

You can't.

Have it done professionally or buy a new one - and make him pay.
