Default Plug in timer

I don't know if such a beast exists but I am looking for a 13amp plug-in
timer so that I can set some lights (flashing disco stuff) in my son's room
to turn off after a set period (upto 2 hours give or take). I don't want to
use a standard timer unit as there are not any set times that the equipment
will be used for as it used on ad hoc basis.

The lighting stuff is used to calm him down when he's upset and also as part
of a multi-sensory set-up. Unfortunately as the idle git refuses to move or
do anything for himself (SWMBO claims it's due to him being a quadraplegic
but I know the truth) at present the kit can be inadvertently left running
for an excessive length of time thus burning a few too many electrons for my
taste.

Any suggestions will be welcome although I won't promise to act on all of
them.....

Cheers

Mark

Thanks for that Bob. I've never used CPC so I didn't think of looking there.
When I checked though it said that they no longer stock them :-( but at
least I now know that such products do exist.

So you don't actually need 13A

any electrical shop should sell them, Costco were selling 3 for a tenner
some time ago

or ... you could try google

or ... anywhere really

Tell him he'll have to come up with a better excuse than that. Like
being a teenager for example. They definitely can't do anything for
themselves.

The TCS40 is about halfway down this page, priced at £24.99

Or if you want more flexibility (at a cost) consider using X10 with
something like a Domia timer and a switched socket:

Personally I don't recall seeing plug in timers that switch off after a set
period. As you say almost any electrical shop will sell a timer that will
switch on and then off at set periods but as I thought I had addressed this
in my post I was hoping that I wouldn't be lambasted with statements of the
obvious.

Whilst the actual ampage of the lights that are currently plugged is
probably not 13 amps I would like the option of using one switch to control
several pieces of kit which may include a large wattage of lights amongst
other stuff - hence the desire to able to set the timer for a set period and
for the stuff to automatically turn off. In short what I want is a snooze
function for a number of items, all of which plug into the mains with 13 amp
plugs (even if they may only use 3 amp fuses).

I could google - and in fact did but I only turned up standard mechanical
and electronic timers rather than what I was looking for.

Cheers

Mark

Don't know if it helps, but I live in Germany and have purchased some
electronic time switches, which ALSO have the option to set the amount
of time you want the appliance to be 'ON', then switch off
automatically. E.g. after 10 mins, 35 mins, 3hours, etc. Infinitely
variable.
They cost relatively little, also provide a 'random' function, for when
you go out, to have lights, etc going on and off randomly. You can also
set about three different 'on/off' times per day. On the negative side,
they are designed for Continental plugs with 2 prongs! Ideal for me, but
maybe not for you?
Purchase locally in DIY supermarket like B&Q.

Kingshield 7 day electronic timer - a plug in type with integral 13A
socket - will do that.
