Hi

Does anyone know where to buy those door mounted mini searchlights you see
on 4x4's?

Tried Google to no avail, but I don't know how to describe them?

cops - but any thing they haven't got must be pretty hard to get)

I remember reading somewhere that *moveable* lights such as this on a
vehicle are not legal.

At least, I THINK I remember reading this.

The Road Vehicle Lighting Regulations prohibit the use of movable lamps
while the vehicle is in motion. Fitting them is not, in itself, illegal.

Nor is using them when stationary.

Unless you are rabbiting after dark across a field and shooting the buggers
for dinner ;-^

am about to order 2 off them.

Ridiculous price. I'd get a headlight from a scrap yard and find some
sort of a tin or saucepan to hold it in, with duct tape and a couple
of yards of wire bodged onto a lighter plug.

Hmmm... come to think of it I wouldn't mind one of them and I could
use it at work with a second hand car battery from the same place. I
wonder how much those lorry headlights cost.

I could even use it to toast my sarnies.

Perhaps looking for searchlights for lamping might be more successful.
AIUI this is the term for transfixing - rabbits usually, I think - by
a very powerful searchlight before shooting them. Usually seen in the
form of a roof mounted searchlight with a handle descending into the cab
of an open backed pickup that sports gun racks, Confederate bumper
stickers etc or the like ;-)

Alternatively, a couple of small spotlights at the ends of a single roof
bar might work?
