Things stored in my loft get very smelly - is there a way to stop it?
I store lots of stuff in my loft eg , suitcases, out of season clothes;
packing materials eg bubble wrap, cardboard boxes etc, polystyrene chips etc etc. When I bring things down to use, I notice they smell really musty and there isnt much I can do to remove the odour. All the packing materials get tainted with this odour so it isnt very nice for the person receiving the package. There are no damp problems, leaks or anything else. And there isnt much of an odour in the loft when I go up there. Is there anything I can do to prevent it? Thanks Rob |

Is the draught free to waft up from the eaves? If not then maybe an airbrick at each end is all it needs. Rick |

Rick for the clothing or material like that store them in vacuum bags(you use a vacuum cleaner to suck the air out. We use this on our boat and it work very well. A company like Lakeland normally have them. The Q |

Don't underestimate the power of mothballs. Fling a handful up there and the
odours will change. (and the woodworm may also move out.) |

Your loft is inadequately ventilated so that the moisture released by everyday life in your house which percolate through the ceilings is not being cleared by draught through your roof space. Imagine what this is doing to your roof timbers. Bob |
