Default highest speed on baumatic extractor no longer works

I have a Baumatic BT79 cooker extractor hood that is vented to the
outside. It has 3 speeds and has worked flawlessly for 3 years. The
other night I switched it onto the highest speed and got no extraction
just a low hum, the other 2 speeds work just fine. What could be wrong?
