Default How close can electrical sockets be to sinks ?

there is no regulation about sockets in close proximity to sinks however it
must be suitable for that position. i.e if it is likely to get wet or damp
then it must be of the correct ip rateing. therefore normal sockets should
not be positioned close to sinks where they could get wet.

rule of thumb for ordinary sockets not less than 300mm horizontaly from the
sink.

Any there any regulations about how close electrical sockets can be to
sinks (or how far away they must be) ?

Regards.

There are, you may be suprised to hear, no specific regulations with regard
to placing electrical outlets over or near sinks!!!

However, there are regulations which state that a particular electrical item
must be suitable for the environment in which it is used. It is this
regulation which effectively prevents the use standard electrical fittings
near sinks etc, requiring that the outlet must be IP44 in such an area.
Her-indoors would not allow such an industrial outlet near the kitchen
sink!!

The practical, rule-of-thumb answer to the question is "not within 30cm of
the edge of the sink, including any intregal draining board" (IEE. Snags &
Solutions Handbook)
