Default cast iron hinges

Just bought a box of 4" cast iron butts - very expensive. Disappointed
to find that they aren't the real thing but sort of antique effect cast
iron. i.e. they are cast iron but are crude and badly made. Is it no
longer possible to get the genuine article? Proper CI hinges were
precisely made, easy to fit and lasted many times longer than any
alternative. Seems that everything nowadays is just fake crap.

cheers

Jacob

I didn't know they could even produce proper cast iron now'a'days.
Progress, eh? :-(

Oh no, it is still made. By Kirkpatrick of Wallsall:

Not cheap but they still make the real thing - whiteheart malleable
cast iron. It is far stronger than ordinary cast. Read about it on
Kirkpatrick's website. They dont sell small quantities but there are a
number of firms who stock their products. I get them from
Architectural Ironmogery of Ross-on-Wye:

They have always provided a prompt, efficient and helpful service.

Can't see plain CI hinges as used on old interior doors.

Try the Ross-on-Wye people, they have them.
