We can do that. Were it not for the NHS I wouldn't be here now. I have received exemplary service from all facets of the service I have used - from hospitals to dental treatment. As with other walks of life, I find a measure of patience and treating the staff as fellow human beings goes a long way. I think that one should always treat others as fellow human beings regardless of the situation. Certainly in terms of the professionalism of the medical staff at the point of delivery, I have no issues at all. My criticism is entirely of the system between the point where it takes my money and how the delivery is organised and funded. It is able to convince people that they are getting something for "nothing" and should be grateful for what they get. I can be patient to a point, but not over a confidence trick like that. I don't mind paying for a good product or service as long as I get it, but this is not as far as I'm concerned. ..andy To email, substitute .nospam with .gl |

Which proves how unequal the system has become. 50% of us have no access to NHS dentistry no matter who we vote for. Yet my taxes still go to pay for the other 50% to have something I cannot get. |

In my view, their shouldn't be economically enforced socialised medicine at all. So you'd prefer we have the equivalent of the American system? No state provision, Wrong. Medicare provides for the elderly. Medicaid for the indigent. quack doctors everywhere, Wrong. It's harder to become a doctor in the US than here. And much easier to find out who's who. overpriced heath insurance, Wrong. Kaiser Permanente (a Califonia HMO) has been shown to provide care much superior to the NHS at a lower cost than the NHS. outrageously expensive drugs? Debateably. I was agreeing with you until this one. Unfortunately after being charged $35 for a bottle of big standard antibiotics this is one area the US hasn't got to grips with as the drug companies have a huge clout. Hilary Clinton has proposed a bill to fix this but in the meantime many Americans flying to Europe do fly back via Madrid so as to get drugs over the counter at low cost. |

Shame as the land would have made ideal toll routes - into town in the morning, out in the evening. |
