Yep! Mind you, I've never been a SB fan, have never wanted to own one, but
what a heart breaker this thing is. I realize how they are coveted by so
many. Owning that machine would be akin to owning a new Mercedes that was
driven in a serious sand storm.

In spite of the new condition, I feel the price is WAY out of line. It
will never be the lathe it once was.

Hey, Jim,
I saw that the other day and boy, for never being used, it sure shows
some wear around the feed handles. I guess they kept changing feeds
every now and then to keep it working- you know, kinda like engaging
the 4 wheel drive in the summer to keep it lubed!
I'm curious to see if there'll be any takers...

Yep. One could find a machine in 95% of the shape that one is
(and in some respects, less rusted) for about half the value.

I think it is, however, testament to the seller's honesty
that he has not scrubbed the machine down with scotchbright.

Well it looks as if it has been used some but for the most part new. Those
are nice little south bend lathes and the cam lock is nice to have. It will
be interesting to see if it sells.

From my memory I don't recall Southbend shipping lathes with cosmoline on
them. I used to visit AC Colby's Southbend showroom in Mineola NY in the
late 1980's (Yes there was such a thing). I used to marvel at all the new
Southbend lathe's lined up for shipping (mostly 10L's). I believe the dealer
installed the electric wiring/contactors according to the customer's order.
The lathes were all nice & shiny, never saw cosmoline unless the dealer
cleaned it off at arrival.
