Kmart buys Sears
One of the most interesting books I read in the past few years was the history of F.W. Woolworth (yes, I should get out more). Woolworth did almot the same thing to suppliers that Walmart does way back in the early part of the 20th century, dictating prices to suppliers and dropping them if they couldn't make a price point. They also did the Warren Buffett thing, buying businesses outright with cash (Woolworth never went into debt, back then) and running them to maximize profits and get a certain price. Where is Woolworth now? My dad would like to know, he misses the liver and onions that the lunch counter used to serve. Nick |

Nick I miss the cheap guns and ammunition they used to sell G Gunner "If I'm going to reach out to the the Democrats then I need a third hand. There's no way I'm letting go of my wallet or my gun while they're around." "Democrat. In the dictionary it's right after demobilize and right before demode` (out of fashion). -Buddy Jordan 2001 |

Not an uncommon situation "back in the day". However, Kress ("five &
dime" store) was NOT the same as Kresge (which became K-Mart). Ahernwill wrote: Where is Woolworth now? Nick Woolworth is K-Mart No, SS Kresge is Kmart.. OOPS- you are right- the Kress store used to be right next door to Woolworths in my town. |
