Need Advice on how to Post URL Links.
Hello to All !!
Could anyone Please describe step by step, how post Links when I answer a post to newsgroups without typing them. I was told it is a piece of cake, cut & paste. My cut & paste icons on the tool bar are greyed out. I am old but new with computers. I use Windows XP home, with OE 6 & Internet exp. Thanks in Advance. x@y. |

Click where you want to paste down the link and hit ctrl-V. Works in all Windows applications. Gary |

Some hints: Always leave at least one space between the end of your last typed message and the start of the hyperlink, and always at least one space afterwards. This allows the reader of the post to double click the link from within the newsreader of thier choice to open the website. I would also suggest a real news reader program, such as Xnews: http://xnews.newsguy.com/ Easy to learn to use, totally free, but very powerful software if you want to use it's capabilities. There are others, such as FreeAgent. Outlook is *not* a good newsreader. -- Anthony You can't 'idiot proof' anything....every time you try, they just make better idiots. And, if those links are really looooooong, like if you've gotten to a page after you've dug down to that item you needed to locate at Home Depot or something like that, do the highlite/Control-C thing on it and then use your browser to go to: http://www.tinyurl.com Where you then paste (Control-V) it into the box, Hit "Make Tiny URL" and receive a much shorter URL like: http://tinyurl.com/4x3sl (Which happens to be my own home page. At my age, it's much easier for me to remember or correctly write down "4x3sl" than the actual URL; click the link above and see what I mean.) That "TinyURL" thing avoids the problems which occur if the URL is too long to fit on one line in a message, in which case clicking on it in some browsers doesn't produce the intended results. Hey X&Y,
Another little hint for the "pasting" part, is to type in a set of "angle brackets", like this at the spot you wish to paste in the "link" or URL. Then when you have highlighted the link you wish to paste in, and done the CTRL-C, and go to the page for pasting, you put the cursor in between those two angle brackets before you hit CTRL-V, so that the "link" ends up written between the brackets. This allows you to put in really long links and then most other people you send this to can "double-pick" it and have it go to that site immediately. For instance, lets say I was looking at an Ebay page, and wanted to send the URL for a milling machine to you. If I just "paste in" http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...m=3825557 252 it may get broken by some email readers to look like this http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ViewItem&category=58254&item=3825557252 and would be no good without further effort on your part. But, if I type in the first, then place the cursor between them before CTRL-V, we get http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=58254&item=3825557 252 and most peoples programs can understand to keep all between the brackets as "one thing". A better example (longer URL) might be http://www.bevlisting.com/board.php?...a920c0 35ca15 versus http://www.bevlisting.com/board.php?boardid=1&sid=7b74aa7b4dddcf52ddf5a920c0 35ca15 Take care.
