Strange thread

In the replacement steering knuckle for an IHC 453 there are two threaded holes whose thread I can't make out: inner diameter about 10.25 mm and a pitch of 13 TPI [1]. WTF is this? It's obviously neither M12(x1,75) nor UNC1/2x13... Is there an UNC15/32x13? Or even a cross-over 12mmx13TPI? Any hints appreciated [2]. Volker [1] I screwed in a 11mm square wood rod to get that accurately. [2] Yes, I'll contact the vendor. But, I prefer not to appear totally ignorant on the phone ;-) Proprietary thread size? |

@dont-email.me: Proprietary thread size? nah... just a less-common size. I found it, when I actually looked: http://www.mutualscrew.com/product/m...h-speed-steel- 85428.cfm |

How LONG is this wooden 'master' (and your thread gauge) that you can measure 2-or-so% diff in a piece of indented wood? Don't have it at hand, but about nine turns. 13tpi is 1.954mm; 8 x 0,046mm is 0,37mm, a difference big enough to see. I've seen some oddballs here and there... when in doubt, make it on the lathe, and have it heat-treated. That's Plan B. Except that I'll have to have it made, I don't have access to a lathe, and if I had, I couldn't use it properly. Or, as was suggested, order one from a vendor specializing in that machine. When talking to the vendor, I want to know what I'm talking about. V.B. -- "I'm a doctor, not a mechanic." Dr Leonard McCoy "I'm a mechanic, not a doctor." Volker Borchert |
