It also was a different time -

a time when a degree in the liberal arts meant something.



It still means the same thing it always did - a broad foundation of

knowledge and skills that can be used in a wide range of careers and

activities. It includes learning to think critically, learn

efficiently, communicate effectively, and to integrate and utilize

information from disparate sources.



And it symbolizes perseverance. It's never been easy to get a college

degree, and one must respect that. The same with an honorable discharge

from the military.



The whole problem is that it has become easier to get a degree than it

used to be, and the market understands that the degree doesn't mean as

much as it used to mean; it has been devalued, exactly as inflation

devalues the currency. And it was done to us by leftists, who started

fabricating degree programs in ideological bull****. A degree in

anything that has "studies" in the program title is bull****, and the

market treats it as such.



Trying to talk to George about the real world is a waste of time.



No, I'm talking about the real world, Deny. You're denying the real

world, Deny. I am telling you, authoritatively, that degrees in

anything with "studies" in the name - African-American "Studies",

Chicano "Studies", LGBT "Studies", [any HAM {'historically aggrieved

minority', ha ha ha) group] "Studies" - is worthless, and the market

recognizes it. Someone who obtains a degree in that /may/ land a job as

a gag "diversity coordinator" at a large, heavily regulated

corporation like a utility or a bank, but that person will earn less

than someone with community college accounting or computer systems

certificate.



In the real world, you're sitting at a desk. You have to

hire someone by Friday, and it's Monday. You've got 50 applications. Nice

pleasant young f people. Not an easy task.

You read the applications and think and think. Panic is just around the

corner, as you glance at the calender 100 times. Gotta start somewhere. The

first default is to go down the list of college education. Right away you

dump 20 applications.



Those with degrees in "HAM Studies". Exactly so.





Now you just have 30....



I pick the candidates with the trade school or vocational school

certificates.
