The Winter consumer ripoffs: EdenPure, HeatSurge

wrote: The Edenpure ripoff: http://www.amazon.com/EdenPURE-1000-...owViewpoints=1 Cured copper, eh?? Ah, that's one smooth piece of copywriting. That guy or woman could do Publisher's Clearing House direct-mail copy. Just to rub some salt in the wounds, the guy who used to write PCH direct mail, at least through the early '90s, was paid $910,000/year to write for them. That is not a typo. Anything that's *really* good, even b.s., commands a premium price. "Cured copper" is sheer genius. I'll bet that copywriter is making well over $200,000/yr., as are about a dozen of the country's finest. d8-) -- Ed Huntress (former copywriter, but never in that league) |

You treat the people as your flock and you persuade them to do things that you believe are good for them -- or that are good for you, while helping them to make an otherwise unimportant choice. It's actually a deep philosophical subject. I hated the philosophy, got out of copywriting, and went back to journalism. Except when I really need to make some money. Writing advertising and publicity pays at least 2 to 3 times as much as writing editorial content. I'm writing editorial now but I wrote publicity and marketing copy when I had to put my son through college. And like any high-level skill, one can objectify it and admire the skill, if not the practice. -- Ed Huntress |

But I'd rather help people reduce home heat loss cheaply or engineer their own Rossi E-Cat. Here's an example.
