There is no hole at all now, so saying 'the top flange won't fit' is a
Red Herring. This is not the Monty Python Argument Clinic...

If you (or the factory) were to cut a hole and make a hatch, you have
to make sure it's large enough to get your hands in there to work, and
to pull out the old pump.

...

OK, you were talking a different hatch than I thought you meant. I
thought you were talking about making another access in the
_bottom_of_the_tank_ to pull the pump alone w/o the assembly, not the body.

...

I'd much rather spend a few minutes with a putty knife slicing the
caulk to pop the hatch in the trunk, and cleaning up and reapplying
more sealer when done - than have to drop the tank and put it back.
That's *not* a few minutes.

...

On an automobile, perhaps, I don't know. On the pickup dropping the tank
itself is only a couple minutes at most; the flange in the truck body
wouldn't be that big of an improvement really. And, if one has a fifth
wheel setup it's high likelihood the structure for it will be in the
way, anyway. I didn't look at that specifically but I think the support
channel for it is over the flange location so isn't an open shot, flange
or no...

OK, it is possible, I checked locations while under there yesterday.
The bed rails and supports are on either side of the flange location.

But, the diesel tank covers it up in my case so I'd have to lift it out
which if it were to have much at all in it that's would be not a trivial
task, either...
