Simple a combination of experience and common sense.

I can hardly think of a single Republican chain email, posted here,
that was not originated or stated in regulas media, that would not be
a fabrication.

So, a healthy dose of skepticism about Republican chain emails, posted

The "letters" from "soldiers in Iraq" were always a nice touch from Gunner
and the boyz. To save time, I just set up a keyboard macro for Snopes.

The spurious quotes are always good for a laugh, too. For example,

"That government is best which governs least." Jefferson, right? Or Tom
Paine? Hmmm....no, it was a Transcendentalist in the 1830s -- Henry David
Thoreau.

Oh, well.

The only thing disgusting is that seemingly intelligent people think such
stuff is funny enough to be worth re-posting. By the way, this photo was
taken when they were on vacation during a day stop at the Grand Canyon. She
and her daughter (who was cropped out of this photo) were dressed to go
hiking. Would you rather they had gone hiking in pants suits? Imagine the
pictures then! Or do you think it would be better to change in the back of
the limo?

NOW what's disgusting?

The only thing disgusting is that seemingly intelligent people think such
stuff is funny enough to be worth re-posting. By the way, this photo was
taken when they were on vacation during a day stop at the Grand Canyon. She
and her daughter (who was cropped out of this photo) were dressed to go
hiking. Would you rather they had gone hiking in pants suits? Imagine the
pictures then! Or do you think it would be better to change in the back of
the limo?

I despise the whole concept of "dressing well".

Had the picture not been photo-shopped, how would that change the fact
about not having credentials?
