Time to evacuate California?
"Aratzio" wrote in message ... On Wed, 16 Dec 2009 22:22:38 -0600, in the land of alt.usenet.kooks, "r wiley" got double secret probation for writing: Al Gore is right. Let me make you a really great deal on what is sure to become prime beach front property in Arizona. rw I prefer drowning to starving. The problem with the central valley of California is subsidized water and crops. Over the last 18 years, I have driven south on I-5 maybe 10 times a year. Both kids went to University in SoCal and both live there now. 18 years ago, there were few lights seen at night down the 99 corridor. Now it is almost solid lights. Maybe 22 million people 18 years ago. Now 33 million. And they have planted more and more water intensive crops in the Cadillac Desert. Cotton, a subsidized, water hungry crop. Water to Ag is from $6-9,59 an acre foot. Biggest grower of subsidized cotton just sold a bunch of his subsidized water to the town of Mohave for $1500 and acre foot. Nice government subsidized paycheck. They grow rice in the Bakerfield area now. And Pelosi and Boxer were so proud of the last water contracts the Fed's signed. That $6-9.50 a foot and the rights to resell unused water. Previous contract did not allow resell. So you get water for $30 less than it costs to deliver and get to resell for $300-1500 a foot. Plus grow crops the government gives you a big check in price support to grow. 80% of calif water is Ag water use. But is too cheap to require conservation in watering methods. http://www.politicalfriendster.com/s...tewart-Resnick Largest grower and big time politcal fund raiser. http://www.argentco.com/htm/f20091111.379725.htm |
